Fly Tipping Hotspot - Rural High Traffic Layby

Our client challenge and requirement:

Milton Keynes Council Environmental Crime team have had historic and consistent reports of littering and fly tipping at this particular remote and rural location. Due to the layout of the road layby and the local environment it was challenging to install surveillance devices on or near the location. The environment was also particularly challenging due to no available light sources.

Our process and service solution provision:

We conducted a site audit to specify and develop the most effective targeted solution. Due to the distances involved and lack of electrical supply and light, the team had to devise a new bespoke solution. We custom built in-house a camera solution which included a long- range zoom camera and a separate accompanying camera capable of recording vehicle registration plates in complete darkness. This ensured we were able to capture images and context for all offences, along with providing high quality vehicle registration details to ensure offenders were identified.

Outcome and client benefit:

At Crimewave we have the specialist capability to design and build our cameras in-house to suit the unique challenges of each environment to which they will be deployed. In doing so we ensure the best quality and most compelling video evidence is produced. For this particular project, we received local community residents comments on how effective our targeted action plan had been, and how much cleaner this area remains since. The results so far from this location evidence how substantial the issues had been. To date the following actions have been taken from the evidence packs we provided to the Milton Keynes Environmental Crime team, which also included identifying rubbish being thrown from moving vehicles.
