Crimewave is delighted to be supporting Milton Keynes City Council’s Safer Streets Project in the deployment of our 24hr recording CCTV cameras as part of the MyMiltonKeynes My Safe City initiative. Crimewave supports this initiative beyond the deployment of the cameras, as a team of Evidence Gatherers working with the Council and other authorities, with the hope that we can proactively and reactively gather evidence to support the safety of individuals around the area of Central Milton Keynes.

Following government funding last year, MK City Council is working with Crimewave and other partners across this initiative, which will see a new ‘Safe Route’ formed across the city with upgrades to pedestrian areas and lighting in and around underpasses.

This is a subject we feel very passionate about, as our cities and urban areas pose an increasing threat to the public – and to the safety of women and girls in particular.

A new, fully connected system of CCTV cameras have been installed across the city centre as part of the Business Improvement District’s (BID) partnership with Milton Keynes City Council to deliver the Safer Streets Project.

The CCTV cameras are monitoring key areas of the city, which have been identified by MyMiltonKeynes ambassadors as crime and anti-social behaviour hot spots, following a comprehensive audit and cross reference of a Thames Valley Police crime heat map. The surveillance cameras have been funded by MK City Council’s Safer Streets Project - two of which have been exclusively funded by MyMiltonKeynes and placed within the BID area to provide maximum coverage and impact while deterring criminal activity.

One of the key concerns of our My Safe City initiative was the need for a fully functioning and connected CCTV system across the BID area. Our ambassadors have significantly contributed to the delivery of this system, ensuring each camera is placed in an area that will have maximum impact. Covering areas including Xscape, 12th Street, Exchange Square, Station Square and sections of Midsummer Boulevard, the CCTV cameras are also monitoring overground bridges that are on the outskirts of the BID area. For some time, the BID has been pushing for enhanced CCTV camera coverage and this new network will play a vital role in helping us to continue to deliver a safer, cleaner, better connected, smarter and more vibrant city centre for all."
